Edgar's was every Poe fan's dream. GREAT artwork on the walls along with Poe writings. The owner, Benny, spoke with us and made sure we had whatever we needed. Can't wait to return!

While Edgar's has a full menu and is a great spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner I find myself most often going here for coffee and dessert. The dessert menu is extensive and incredibly reasonable. The cafe's original location was on 84th street near where Edgar Allan Poe lived. The decor lives up to its namesake. You'll find lots of Poe and Ravens. It's a charming spot to meet a friend for a sweet treat.

I've been meaning to stop by for a while. I came by for brunch and had the scallion, cream cheese and smoked salmon omelette and my friend had the Nutella French toast. Both were really nice and service was nice and quick. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside, which was nice. I'll come back here.

Had a wonderful time here! The appetizer, six-grain bread topped with beets and pine nuts, is a delightful snack. The bread is soft and chewy, while the naturally sweet beets pair beautifully with the crunch of the nuts. The Bolognese pasta arrives fresh and hot, with a vibrant red sauce. You can taste the juicy tomatoes, the well-seasoned meat, and the perfectly al dente spaghetti. Edgar's omelette is the perfect way to start your morning with energy! It's packed with fresh vegetables, filled with gooey, stringy cheese, and not overly greasy. It leaves you feeling fueled but not stuffed. It has the most adorable Tiramisu! Placed in a cup, the delicate tiramisu chunks are stacked over each other. It feels like you're biting into a cloud but imparted with rich espresso and chocolate flavors! The key lime pie is impeccable. The tanginess is bold and bountiful, wakes up your palate and coaxes you into never-ending next bite. The crust, perfectly crumbly while not overly rich, holds up the whole pie beautifully. Latte is exceptionally foamy and tastes silky. It makes up a cozy dessert experience.

The chase: good food, solid coffee (even the decaf), semi-charming atmosphere and pleasant staff. Things were crowded on the UWS this Sunday. Normally there's a "grace period" before 10:00am (a friend insists the cutoff is 9:30) that allows you to get a table or a counter seat pretty much anywhere, but no such luck today. Flying solo (girlfriend informed me she was sleeping in) I thought i'd have an easy time. Assume nothing! Broadway Bagel was a "no go," Effy's had a 30-40 minute waiting list and I just couldn't deal with going to Metro, City or Manhattan diners yet again (love the place, but "even a broken clock has to mix it up every-so-often" as the saying goes. I normally walk Broadway or Columbus (at least down in the 80s) in search of dining experiences and was heading over to Hi-Life (girlfriend says it's inauthentic, I like it) when I came across Edgar's. I've been walking by for a while and decided today Edgar's will be given a spin. Charming, if slightly odd atmosphere. The original location in the cellar of a mansion that was once the domicile of EA Poe, the new location brings some of that eerie charm in the form of an almost dungeon like Roman ruin aesthete centered on a portrait of Poe himself. (I hope the missing plaster over what looks like subway vent grates in the ceiling are there as decor and not because a renovation was started and halted due to asbestos.) The place was empty. I ignored this red flag and took a seat. The menu is pretty deep and I decided on a goat cheese omelette with spinach and mushroom. Now, there's a debate in the omelette world as to whether the ingredients should be incorporated into the egg (integration) or served between the folded egg (separation). I am normally an integrationist, but the separationist style was what was on the plate, and I must admit it won me over. The goat cheese was just the right ratio with the other ingredients and was certainly the star. The egg blanket was very skillfully prepared with a perfect crust. The home style potatoes were soft and smooth. The toast was standard and I shall not be writing home about it. Coffee was a step up from regular diner coffee. The place seems to be best known for its afternoon pastry crowd. There are many kosher choices if that's your dietary thing, including an "avocado cheesecake" (perhaps next time?). [note: curiosity got the better of me -- I tried it... the outer pastry shell looks like an avocado skin (it is not). The base is a chocolate crust. The interior cheese is on the soft side, not too sweet. Is that mint I'm tasting? I keep taking small tastes. The jury is still out. I can't say I love it, but it does intrigue. (Is that lime? I think I taste some lime.) An enigma of sorts, like the Shamrock shake -- you're not quite sure what it is, but you keep sipping it, hoping to solve a sweet mystery. Thoughts?] I had the benefit of a quiet slow kitchen, but i say it is worth a try -- it will be added to my dining repertoire.

Really cute little cafe! It's hard to find spots that are open late into the evening so this is a real gem. I ordered the mixed berry pie and a hot chocolate. It was solid. The atmosphere is really nice and it was so warm inside. I would definitely go back.

I love this little cafe on Amsterdam Ave and 92nd street! So much so I stop by every Tuesday. I mostly stop by for an iced drink to start my day if not for a pick me up dessert. It never disappoints! The staff is so friendly and I am always in and out. Their menu is extensive and there is something for everyone! Definitely worth a trip here if you're in the neighborhood.
